Since April 2008, further to an initiative of the Municipality of Athens and the signing of a memorandum of cooperation by 9 supermarkets, AB has been offering its customers free photodegradable bags replacing the old plastic ones. The sale of reusable bags is still on-going.

The photodegradable bags are plastic but they contain a special additive which allows the total degradation of the bag in the presence of light, warmth and air, thus contributing in part towards environmental protection. Naturally this does not mean that they should not be recycled like other plastics.
