The e-volution Awards is an annual event organized by Marketing Week, BOUSSIAS and the Electronic Commerce Laboratory (ELTRUN) of the Athens University of Economics and Business, which rewards every year the best practices in the field of Greek e-commerce. 06/12/2021 AB Vassilopoulos: New generation medical equipment, worth of a half a million euros, gives "hope" and supports more than 30 ICU beds of "Evanggelismos" hospital

At a critical time for the management of the pandemic, AB Vassilopoulos contributes to the quality imprevement of the provided health services and to the more effective treatment of the covid-19 cases with the delivery of new generation medical equipment, worth half a million euros, which has already been installed and is in full operation in the new, state-of-the-art wing of “Evanggelismos Hospital”, covering critical needs for more than 30 ICU beds in the Hospital. In particular, the equipment "package" utilizes state-of-the-art medical technologies, and includes an exemplary data management system with:

The advanced equipment uses state-of-the-art technology, such as artificial intelligence, and provides new, groundbreaking capabilities in the ICUs that accelerate, among other things, the study and scientific decisions of critically ill patients. Also, with the cardiology medical data management software, one of the first to have been installed in Greece, the Intensive Care Units of the "Evanggelismos" hospital, collect and digitally analyze the cardiological data, and monitor their progress daily.

The Minister of Health, Athanasios Plevris stated in this regard: "I would like to thank the company AB Vassilopoulos for this extremely important donation and its contribution to the upgrading of the services provided with new equipment, in order to offer quality Health services. Throughout the pandemic there is a great deal of awareness of companies regarding donations and the goal of the political leadership is to continue all this activity after the pandemic, so that we can finally build a National Health System with such logisticalinfrastructure and human recourses that will provide the best and safest patient care possible. The Government’s commitment is to upgrade the National Health System and in the midst of the crisis and the pandemic this is being done in a coordinated manner. The work of the Ministry of Health and of the organized State does not stop, even though we are facing the pandemic."

26/11/2021 ΑΒ Βασιλόπουλος: Ολοκληρώθηκε το FEMpowerment Initiative: The Academy

Ένα πρόγραμμα του ReGeneration, για την ενδυνάμωση της γυναικείας επιχειρηματικότητας με την πολύτιμη υποστήριξη της Πρεσβείας των Η.Π.Α. στην Αθήνα και της ΑΒ Βασιλόπουλος, υπό την καθοδήγηση του Women On Top.

Με μεγάλη επιτυχία ολοκληρώθηκε το FEMpowerment Initiative: The Academy, η Ακαδημία για την ενδυνάμωση της γυναικείας επιχειρηματικότητας που πραγματοποιήθηκε στο πλαίσιο του ReGeneration FEMpowerment Initiative με την υποστήριξη της Πρεσβείας των ΗΠΑ στην Αθήνα και της ΑΒ Βασιλόπουλος.

36 νέες και δυναμικές επαγγελματίες, έως 35 ετών, με διαφορετικό ακαδημαϊκό υπόβαθρο και με έντονο ενδιαφέρον για την επιχειρηματικότητα ή με ήδη υλοποιημένες επιχειρηματικές ιδέες, κατάφεραν να περάσουν από 3 στάδια αξιολόγησης και να κατακτήσουν μια θέση στην ειδικά σχεδιασμένη, ολιστική Ακαδημία που είχε στόχο την ανάπτυξη του γυναικείου επιχειρείν.

Οι finalists ξεκίνησαν το «ταξίδι» τους με ένα εντατικό εκπαιδευτικό 4ήμερο για soft & business skills, που πραγματοποιήθηκε στις 25, 27 & 29 Οκτωβρίου. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, η τετραήμερη εκπαίδευση περιλάμβανε ομιλίες, panels και workshops από καταξιωμένα στελέχη και εισηγητές πάνω σε εξαιρετικά χρήσιμες θεματικές όπως CV & LinkedIn Building, Career Management, Personal Branding, Gender Equality, κ.α.

Στη συνέχεια, παρακολούθησαν 10 δίωρα εντατικά Capacity building workshops από το Women on Top, σε θεματικές όπως Pitching, Fundraising, Business Planning κτλ, στα οποία είχαν την ευκαιρία να εξελίξουν τις ιδέες τους και να ξεπεράσουν τις προκλήσεις που αντιμετωπίζουν στην επιχειρηματική τους καριέρα

H εκπαίδευση συμπληρώνεται με 2 tailor-made learning paths σε soft & entrepreneurship skills καθώς και δυνατότητα δωρεάν πρόσβασης σε 9.500 μαθήματα μέσω του LinkedIn Learning. Τέλος, οι συμμετέχουσες θα προχωρήσουν σε one-to-one mentoring sessions διάρκειας 3 μηνών, μέσω του δικτύου μεντόρων του οργανισμού Women On Top

Ο Geoffrey Pyatt, Αμερικανός Πρέσβης, δήλωσε: «Η προώθηση της οικονομικής ενδυνάμωσης των γυναικών είναι βασική προτεραιότητα της Κυβέρνησης Biden-Harris. Στην Πρεσβεία των Η.Π.Α στην Ελλάδα, έχουμε δεσμευτεί να ανταποκριθούμε σε αυτόν το στόχο μέσω προγραμμάτων που στηρίζουν τις  γυναίκες επιχειρηματίες και γεφυρώνουν το φυλετικό χάσμα στους τομείς της επιστήμης και της τεχνολογίας. Είμαστε ιδιαίτερα χαρούμενοι που συνεργαζόμαστε με το ReGeneration, στην κοινή προσπάθεια να προσφέρουμε νέες δεξιότητες, καθοδήγηση, έμπνευση και δικτύωση σε γυναίκες από όλη την Ελλάδα. Η ιστορία δείχνει ότι όταν οι γυναίκες συμμετέχουν στην οικονομία, οι κοινωνίες ευημερούν. Και καθώς οι χώρες και οι κοινωνίες ανακάμπτουν από το οικονομικό πλήγμα που επέφερε η πανδημία, η συμβολή των γυναικών θα είναι πιο πολύτιμη από ποτέ.

Με ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον και συμμετοχές, δε, συνεχίζεται ο δεύτερος θεματικός πυλώνας της συνολικής πρωτοβουλίας ReGeneration FEMpowerment Initiative. Πρόκειται για τo Masterclass Series, που συγκεντρώνει ένα δυναμικό roster ομιλητριών και ομιλητών από όλο τον κόσμο, ενώ καλύπτει ενδιαφέροντα θέματα όπως συμβουλές για τα πρώτα επιχειρηματικά βήματα, τη σημασία του storytelling, γυναίκες στην τεχνολογία, ηγεσία, ασυνείδητη προκατάληψη (unconscious bias).

21/10/2021 AB Vassilopoulos and WWF Hellas for a future without food waste

Through coordinated actions after the research of Harokopio University which revealed that Greek households throw away 1,000,000 tons of food annually!

Food waste is an issue that concerns us all. With implications for both humans and the environment.

AB Vassilopoulos recognizes the importance of food waste and is committed to reduce its own by 50% by 2025. In this context, and in collaboration with Harokopio University, ΑΒ conducted an 18-month survey to investigate and evaluate food waste throughout its supply chain, at every stage of production, from the farm to our plate. AB is leading an effort accompanied by WWF Hellas to tackle this important issue, with coordinated actions that can make a difference and improve the high food waste rates that are shown by the country's first comprehensive survey surrounding this matter.

Katia Lazaridi, Professor at the Department of Geography of Harokopio University stated:

 "We undertook with enthusiasm this specific research, which was carried out throughout the supply chain of AB Vassilopoulos regarding the food waste that takes place during all its stages, from the field to the plate. This research includes the first comprehensive and large-scale research on the creation of food waste at the household level in our country. Its results are certainly the beginning of the implementation of measures aimed at reducing food waste."

Specifically, the research of Harokopio University revealed that every year in Greece, Greek households* throw away more than 1,000,000 tons of food, half of which could have been safely consumed and not end up in the trash! In addition, food waste in the household sector exceeds 50% of the total waste, and every citizen in Greece, throws away every year 98.2 kg of food from his household, while for a family of four, this number reaches 392.8 kg of food, annually. At the same time, the food waste causes an incalculable waste of natural resources, which are being used to produce food, that is ultimately not being consumed.

Vassilis Stavrou, President & CEO of AB Vassilopoulos, stated: "At AB, we are changing the way we see food. And we are taking action today. For all of us and for the next generations. In collaboration with WWF Hellas, we are getting informed, educated and we mobilize all the links of this great chain to contribute together to a more sustainable future."

AB, therefore, with the support of WWF Hellas:

  • changes its internal procedures to further reduce losses in its stores and warehouses
  • places even greater emphasis on donating quality and completely safe food, as it already does through the Food Donation Program, "Love Food"
  • collaborates with its suppliers to provide them with practical information on ways in which they can reduce losses in agricultural production and processing
  • informs responsibly and respectfully all its customers, developing useful tools that will help citizens to effectively reduce food waste within the home sector

Achilles Plitharas, Head of Imprint Reduction Programs at WWF Hellas stated: "It is estimated that 40% of the food produced worldwide ends up in the trash. Food waste is responsible for almost 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to the escalation of the climate, environmental and social crisis. Considering the above, WWF Hellas collaborated with AB Vassilopoulos, in order to make practical changes and find solutions for all stages of the supply chain, in production and processing, in the operations of AB, but also in the domestic sector. We hope that soon this effort will bear fruit and will be a positive example to be imitated.”

* The research was conducted throughout the supply chain of AB Vassilopoulos. It’s the most extensive survey that has ever been conducted in Greece, regarding the estimation of food waste in the household sector. In the study, which was completed in September 2021, were involved 772 households, in which the quantities of food that ended up as waste were exhaustively studied.

  • SMOKED PORK WITH STAMNAGATHI FROM CRETE: The ultimate Cretan food! Smoked pork is one of the most characteristic dishes of Sfakia and western Crete, while stamnagathi, which is considered to be the "king" of wild herbs, offers special gastronomic pleasures with its unique taste in this very traditional dish.
  • SKIOUFICHTA WITH CHICKEN AND DRY MYZITHRA FROM CRETE: Skioufichta are the traditional spaghetti of Crete. The name "skioufichta" comes from the verb "skioufizo", which means “to turn” in the Cretan local dialect. By sending an SMS to 19803, the employees-volunteers and the clients of AB contribute to the work of the Food Bank, supporting thousands of our fellow human beings. 

For the 11th year, the People – volunteers of AB Vassilopoulos make a difference in the lives of thousand people, with a simple move. And they unite with the customers and friends of AB for everything that matters. For us and the people around us. 

Thus, this year, for the 11th Year of AB Volunteering, we all support the work of the Food Bank, battling famine.  How? From the 13th until the 29th of September, we send an SMS with the word ‘’AB’’ to 19803 and AB Vassilopoulos offers -for each SMS- one more meal, to the ones that need us the most.

Το ReGeneration με την υποστήριξη της Πρεσβείας των Η.Π.Α. στην Αθήνα και της ΑΒ Βασιλόπουλος παρουσιάζουν από κοινού, για πρώτη φορά, το ReGeneration FEMpowerment Initiative, μια δυναμική πρωτοβουλία με στόχο την ουσιαστική προώθηση της γυναικείας επιχειρηματικότητας, καθώς και την προσωπική και επαγγελματική ενδυνάμωση των νέων επαγγελματιών.

Οι γυναίκες υποεκπροσωπούνται σημαντικά στον τομέα της επιχειρηματικότητας και καινοτομίας στην Ελλάδα. With four important, international distinctions at the Superior Taste Awards!

For the favorite products of the "AB Choice" seems that the only… option is to stand out and win golden stars! So, this year, four "AB Choice" products made the difference again and were awarded in the international competition of the International Taste Institute (ITI) 2021, in Brussels.  With 350 charging points for electric cars in its stores in cooperation with PPC, until September 

AB Vassilopoulos together with PPC create the largest charging network for electric cars in our country! More than 250 PPC Blue electric car charging points are already in operation in AB stores throughout Greece and another 100 new points will be added within the next quarter. From Crete, Kalamata and Patras to Attica, Rhodes and Komotini, all those who are looking for a more "green" and "smart" way of movement, can find it thanks to this cooperation.

AB Vassilopoulos, applies practices and offers innovative services and solutions that reduce its environmental footprint. In this context, brings today to many neighborhoods throughout Greece, the shops of the future. The chain's customers can now combine their daily shopping with charging their electric vehicle. With its Corporate Responsibility Actions for People, Products and the Environment!

In a year that will go down in history, AB Vassilopoulos was there with actions and programs that leave a positive footprint. With benefit and value. For People, Products and the Environment.

The "Corporate Responsibility Actions 2020" constitute the report of AB Vassilopoulos for the past year. Another year in which the people of the company proved in practice their purpose: to give their best every day to make a difference in people's lives.

Actions for the People
AB cares for the Greek society, over time but also in extraordinary circumstances. Thus, during 2020, through the programs it implements, AB made donations totaling 6.6 million euros. Among them, is the donation to the National Health System, the additional support of Municipalities and local bodies but also its employees, donations which reached about 4 million euros, while it is estimated* that for every 1 euro a value equivalent to 2,84 euros was created, and a total social footprint that reaches 11.5 million euros. At the same time, it offered more than 180,000 healthy meals to schoolchildren throughout Greece through the DIATROFI program, which it implements in collaboration with the Prolepsis Institute, while through the short food donation program, "LOVE FOOD", it provided food worth 2.19 million euros to local bodies and institutions.

The company managed all this together with the 15,386 members of the "AΒ family". Its own people, to whom it provides a safe, modern, inclusive and flexible work environment. With programs for their health and well-being, for their professional development and growth, but also for their reward. Specifically in 2020, the company offered them a total of 312,407 hours of training, while rewarding the effort they made daily, with benefits that exceeded 17.5 million euros.

Actions for the Products
AB cares about the products that reach Greek households. The ISO certifications it received in 2020, the systematic inspections in its stores and suppliers and the international quality awards, confirm that it prioritizes the safety, quality and sustainability of its products. At the same time, it opens new avenues in the Greek primary production, together with its producers, of which 90% are Greek. And all this to offer its customers unlimited options and products of exceptional quality that inspire every day all those who love food. In addition, AB provides significant supplies and tools to local producers such as the innovative Smart Farming Program, which it designed and implements with the Bodossakis Foundation and the American School of Agriculture. It benefits 230 producers who have access to "smart" technology.

Actions for the Environment 
AB Vassilopoulos cares about the planet and makes sure that everyone together we #changehabits. In 2020, AB continued its actions supporting its commitment to reduce food waste and plastic consumption by 50% by 2025. In this context, the company created the first "Alliance for the Reduction of Food Waste" in Greece, together with the organization "Boroume". Accordingly, it removed disposable plastics from its stores and replaced all plastic bags with paper and biodegradable ones. At the same time, it reduced greenhouse gas emissions at its facilities by 83% compared to its base year (2008), while implementing the energy monitoring system at all its facilities on a 24-hour basis, with the aim of reducing electricity consumption.

"We caught green" and celebrated the World Environment Day together with actions that make a difference!

At AB Vassilopoulos we take care of the todays’ environment, for us and for the next generations. This year, we celebrated Environment Week and participated in EcoFest 2021, which took place on June 4-6 at Plateia Nerou, Athens.

We were there to discover the message of recycling together with younger and older generations! AΒs’ Mobile Environmental Education and Recycling Center reopened its doors, adhering to all health and safety protocols, and reminded us how we can #changehabits and recycle metal & plastic packaging while having fun. We were also there to learn how food waste can and should come out of our lives! Together with food blogger Madame Ginger and food editor Anna Halikia, through two original live workshops we saw how to utilize materials that were thrown away or remained in our fridge and cupboard, turning them into delicious savory and sweet creations against food waste. Because reducing food waste affects us all!

Vassilis Stavrou, President & CEO of AB Vassilopoulos, said: "At AB we really care about the environment and our planet! We are very happy and proud that in collaboration with TEHAN and through our pioneering Mobile Environmental Education and Recycling Center, we have already recycled 53,000 metal & plastic packages, we have traveled to 30 Municipalities of our country and we have trained 21,855 students. Together we make recycling a practice and a knowledge! But we do not stop here. We remain true to our commitment to reduce plastic use by 50% by 2025 and to reduce food waste by 50% by 2025. Through the Mobile Environmental Education and Recycling Center, a modern double deck bus, designed for students, we bring the youth a step closer with the concept of recycling and environmental protection in an experiential and interactive way. With its journey having already begun and having visited many cities in Greece since 2018, the the Mobile Environmental Education and Recycling Center contributes to the cultivation of environmental awareness to young and old and sensitizes them to the ways in which, by changing habits in their lives, they take an essential step to protect the environment. The specialized educational team transmits in an experiential way the principles of recycling, through educational activities and rich, specially designed material, helping our little friends:

  • to know what recyclable materials are
  • learn smart ways to recycle in their daily lives

  • to understand the importance of recycling as a means to a greener planet

AB Easter Eggs came for the fifth consecutive year and are always for a good cause, since this year, they are transformed into acts of offering that can change the lives of the children of Amimoni.

Specifically, with each purchase of Easter Egg AB, you contribute € 0.30 to support the work of Amimoni, the Panhellenic Association of Parents, Guardians and Friends of Multiply Disabled Visually Impaired People. And we double the amount and the smiles of the children!

A few words about "Amimoni"
"Amimoni" is a Panhellenic Association of Parents, Guardians and Friends of Multiply Disabled Visually Impaired People. It was founded in 1993 in Athens. It provides education, care and treatments to children and adults of all ages, while also supporting their families. It operates mainly in the region of Attica, and now it is expanding its services throughout Greece. The beneficiaries are children and adults with visual impairment (either blind or partially sighted) and multiple disabilities, such as: intellectual disability, autism, syndromes, neurological disorders, mobility impairments, epilepsy, psychiatric disorders, hearing impairments.

Until the 1st of May, the Tastes of Greece of AB Vassilopoulos travel us with traditional high quality products

This year, the Lent fast becomes a "journey" to our country. It becomes a gastronomy experience with legumes, many sweet and savory options and other special delicacies of small producers from every corner of Greece. 

From the valleys of Macedonia and the coasts of Chios, to the mountainous region of Mani and the villages of Kythera, this Lent "smells" Greece. We enjoy "AB near the Greek land" Farsala lentils, Rodopi okra and Giannitsa peas, in new recipes for a more gourmet version of the traditional "grandma" dishes cooked in olive oil, that we all love or for salads. We tastefully enhance every soup, pilafi and dolma with the excellent rice bonnet "AB close to the Greek land" grown in the valleys created by Axios, in central Macedonia.

Until February 10th the "treasures" from the fertile land of Thessaly, are waiting for us in the AB stores to discover them

An ideal place for the cultivation of the land, with the Pinios river, the endless plain and the immediate vicinity with the perimeter of the mountains, where livestock and viticulture dominate, Thessaly has a broad variety of products of exceptional quality.

At AB Vassilopoulos we trust and firmly support our region and our producers and with them we make sure to bring the finest products and the most authentic flavors to our table.
